ACTION GENRE
The action Genre is a categorization of films that utilize high levels of action and intense scenes in order to capture the audience's attention . The action Genre is also one of the most popular genres of film and can often be seen dominating the box office.
CONTENTFilms within the action genre have a lot of (as the name implies) action. This means that often times within an action movie you will commonly see things like fighting scenes, impressive physical feats, intense chase sequences, and pretty much anything involving violence. In these types of films, the main thing that drives the movie forward is the physical action which often results in a very fast paced experience. The protagonist of these action films are often male and depicted as heroic and able bodied, being able to preform all sorts of stunts. Since these films primarily focus on the action, things like the story often take a backseat and tend to lack the depth of other movies of different genres.
PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES
Action films utilize various techniques within their production in order to keep the audience's attention at all time and keep the action going. In order to keep up a fast pace one technique used in action films are a lot of moving shots. The lack of static shots helps to keep the audience's interest and also helps follow the action going on within a scene. In combination to these moving shots there are also often the use of close up shots of the action. These mostly serve to add to the drama and suspense to a particular scene.
MARKETING
The action genre is the genre that makes the most money per year and are also often the most expensive movies to make. They often capture the attention of potential audiences through trailers which are able to showcase the big budget in action with all sorts of effects, stunts, etc. Films under the action genre also are able to market through the release of merchandise that mainly caters towards children. By targeting children, films can make even more money since it means that the Childs whole family is more likely to go on top of the money they can make from toys.
